For long format or DFS fans, here’s the good the bad and the ugly from week 4:
- Darian Durant – QB, Saskatchewan Rough Riders
He’s one of the toughest guys in the CFL, no doubt. But he’s also one hit away from taking snaps on crutches for the rest of his life. However, X-rays came back as negative and apparently he shouldn’t be out for long. Until of course, he takes another hit. And misses time. AGAIN. Mitchell Gale filled in during his absence.
- Kevin Glenn – QB, Montreal Alouettes
Foot injury and eye injury, that’s enough to keep the wily veteran out of the lineup on Friday. Good thing he could only partially see, because he didn’t have to watch his time lay a fat goose egg offensively. He should be good to go for week 5. Rakeem Cato and Vernon Adams split duties.
- Joe West – WR, Calgary Stampeders
Coming off the bye week, Greg Wilson took all of his first team reps at practice on Sunday. He’s recovering from a foot injury.
- Nick Moore – WR, BC Lions
He injured his knee during none other than a TD celebration. He missed some time during the game vs Saskatchewan, but did later return.
- Ryan Smith – SB, Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Head Coach Mike O’Shea has already said he could miss a few weeks with an “upper body injury.” Thomas Mayo and Gerrard Sheppard are most likely to battle for the vacant spot.
- John Chiles – SB, Saskatchewan Rough Riders
Injuries and more injuries have prevented the oh-so-talented one from a legitimate CFL career, and yet another on Saturday. He left the game with a knee injury and did not return. The much anticipated Armanti Edwards should take his place.
- Shamawd Chambers – WR, Saskatchewan Rough Riders
The big money free agent signing from the Eskimos tweaked his hamstring and did not return. Fellow National Nic Demski filled in for him nicely, hauling in a touchdown.
- Lemar Durant – WR, Calgary Stampeders
He’s back in action after missing 2 weeks with a sprained ankle. If you own his replacement Simon Charbonneau-Campeau, its not yet time to cut bait and move on (keep reading).
- Quincy McDuffie – WR, Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The kick returner missed week 4 with an undisclosed injury, and is listed as “likely” to play on Thursday vs Calgary.
- Tori Gurley – WR, Toronto Argonauts
All dressed up and no place to go. He was volunteer waterboy during last week’s contest, and it was apparently due to an “ailing injury” that wasn’t ready for game action. The plot thickens..
- Anthony Parker – WR, Calgary Stampeders
Missed practice on the weekend with an undisclosed injury. If he’s not ready to go, Charbonneau-Campeau will shift outside to take his spot.
- Jeremiah Johnson – RB, Calgary Stampeders
He missed week 3 and 4 with an ankle injury, and Anthony Allen filled in nicely. Now BC heads into the bye week, and we imagine JJ will take over first team reps again.
- CJ Gable – RB, Hamilton Tiger Cats
Another case of John Chiles syndrome. Such a talented player, horrible luck with injuries. His neck was being looked at by training staff in the 4th quarter on Friday, but it didn’t look serious. If he can’t go, rookie Ross Scheuerman is next man up follow by National Anthony Woodson.
- Taylor Reed – MLB, Calgary Stampeders
He missed the last half of the Stamps week 3 contest before bye week. A nice rest, and the big off season splash was back at practice with the first team on the weekend. Alex Singleton filled in during his absence.
- Deron Mayo – LB, Calgary Stampeders
He also missed parts of week 3, but now he’s back and ready for action.
- Almondo Sewell – DT, Edmonton Eskimos
The hulking, intimidating fantasy stud left last week’s contest with left hip injury. National Eddie Steele filled in for him.
- Quinn Smith – DT, Calgary Stampeders
He missed week 3 with a shoulder injury, and was replaced by Derek Wiggan (who’s now injured). Junior Turner (on 6 game) practiced this week, and also had off-season shoulder surgery. Could the Stamps activate him early?
- T.J. Lee – DB, BC Lions
This was tough to see. Lee was injured late in the Leos win over the Riders and needed to be carried to the bench. Sure enough after the game it was announced the outstanding halfback had a torn Achilles and will miss the rest of the 2016 season. Steven Clarke, a starter at corner last season for BC, will replace Lee in the secondary.
- Justin Cox – DB, Saskatchewan Rough Riders
The rookie sensation quickly made a name for himself in the Riders secondary, but left the game with an injury. National Tevaughn Campbell filled in for him, and got lit up like a Christmas tree. If he’s not ready to go for week 5, Johnnie Dixon will take his place.
- Forrest Hightower – DB, Ottawa REDBLACKS
He’s been battling a head injury, and missed week 4 because of it. His replacement, Brandon Sermons was released on the weekend. Tristan Jackson also took his place, but got banged up. The newly signed Mitchell White (formerly of Montreal Alouettes) should fit in nicely.
